Preventive measure: Trucks line up at the Bannari Amman check-post near Sathyamangalam on Wednesday morning after the police stopped vehicular movement for a few hours.
ERODE: Karnataka farmers on Wednesday protested near the inter-State border against the Hogenakkal drinking water scheme.
According to the Erode district police, a little over 100 farmers gathered on the border near Pulinjur to protest against the Tamil Nadu government’s move to launch the scheme.
As a preventive measure, the Tamil Nadu police closed the Bannari Amman, Hassanur and Thalavadi check-posts, which left hundreds of trucks and buses stranded. Vehicle movement, which was stopped around 10 a.m., resumed around 1 p.m., after the Karnataka police took the farmers into custody.
State vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party H. Raja told journalists here that the State unit would talk to its Karnataka unit on the issue.
