There is no merit in petitions: court

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has upheld a government order issued in June 2003, by which teaching posts in Mathematics, Science and English arising in standard VI to VIII are to be filled with those who possessed B.A/B.Sc and B.Ed.
Dismissing writ petitions filed by A. Suguna and others, Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar, said since the G.O had been upheld by the court in various judgments, there was no merit in the petitions.
The petitioners’ grievance was that they had passed Diploma in Teacher Education Course and were eligible to handle classes from standard I to VIII.
By virtue of the impugned G.O., their claim for appointment in secondary grade vacancies was affected.
Mr. Justice Paul Vasanthakumar said the order stating that holders of Diploma in Teacher Education course were not eligible to handle classes for Mathematics, Science and English for standard VI to VIII in view of the change in syllabus had already been upheld by him.
The policy decision was taken through a G.O. and all vacant posts from June 2002 were upgraded as middle graduate teacher posts. Persons holding B.A/B.Sc and B.Ed degrees alone were eligible to be appointed in the upgraded vacancies.
His order was challenged before a Division Bench in Madurai, which dismissed the writ appeals.
