SC bodies oppose quota for Arundathiyars

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Representatives of various SC organisations have stoutly opposed the Tamil Nadu government’s move to provide separate reservation for the Arundathiyars within the SC quota, describing it “as a move to divide the SC community.”

Addressing newspersons here on Wednesday, Puthiya Thamizhagam president K. Krishnasamy said such an attempt by the Andhra Pradesh government was quashed by the Supreme Court. It was not legally possible to provide separate reservation for Arundathiyars within the SC quota. “The State government has no powers to tamper with the SC quota.”
