CHENNAI: L. Ganesh’s five-wicket haul was instrumental in Young Stars registering a 51-run win over Globe Trotters on the final day of the 10th-round TNCA first division league match at MRF-Pachaiyappa’s. Ganesh and K. Srinivasan (three for 107) combined to dismiss Trotters, chasing 303, for 251. V. Yomahesh’s 107 (216b, 10x4, 2x6) went in vain for Trotters. Young Stars earned eight points for the outright victory. K. Varun Kumar’s chanceless 111 enabled Vijay take the first-innings lead – and five points – against Parry’s. The wicketkeeper-batsman’s 300-ball effort, containing 14 fours and spanning 400 minutes, was his maiden century in his third season of first division cricket. Varun added a vital 135 for the fifth wicket with S. Sharath (70). Centuries from X. Thalaivan Sargunam (162, 318b, 16x4) and S. Suresh Kumar (144, 260b, 14x4, 4x6) helped Grand Slam score 411 for six in response to Alwarpet’s 529. With the first innings unfinished, the teams shared the points. The final round, scheduled from Friday, promises to be interesting. The semifinal spots and the two teams to be relegated will be finalised.
