Ganesh stars for Young Stars

CHENNAI: L. Ganesh’s five-wicket haul was instrumental in Young Stars registering a 51-run win over Globe Trotters on the final day of the 10th-round TNCA first division league match at MRF-Pachaiyappa’s.

Ganesh and K. Srinivasan (three for 107) combined to dismiss Trotters, chasing 303, for 251. V. Yomahesh’s 107 (216b, 10x4, 2x6) went in vain for Trotters. Young Stars earned eight points for the outright victory.

K. Varun Kumar’s chanceless 111 enabled Vijay take the first-innings lead – and five points – against Parry’s. The wicketkeeper-batsman’s 300-ball effort, containing 14 fours and spanning 400 minutes, was his maiden century in his third season of first division cricket. Varun added a vital 135 for the fifth wicket with S. Sharath (70).

Centuries from X. Thalaivan Sargunam (162, 318b, 16x4) and S. Suresh Kumar (144, 260b, 14x4, 4x6) helped Grand Slam score 411 for six in response to Alwarpet’s 529. With the first innings unfinished, the teams shared the points.

The final round, scheduled from Friday, promises to be interesting. The semifinal spots and the two teams to be relegated will be finalised.

India Pistons 313 drew with IOB 284 in 115 overs (Y. Gnaneswara Rao 56, A.S.K. Varma 93, M. Prabhu four for 108).

Parry’s 229 drew with Vijay 334 for eight decl. in 117 overs (K. Varun Kumar 111, S. Sharath 70, Sree Kumar Nair 48 n.o., G.R. Sadashiv Iyer 50, D. Praveen Kumar four for 100). Points: Vijay 5, Parry’s 2.

Alwarpet 529 drew with Grand Slam 411 for six in 118 overs (X. Thalaivan Sargunam 162, S. Suresh Kumar 144).

Young Stars 177 and 228 bt Globe Trotters 103 and 251 in 102.2 overs (Juzer Abbas 70, V. Yomahesh 107, L. Ganesh five for 98).

Points: Young Stars 8, Globe Trotters 0.

Aruna 325 and 180 for eight decl. in 44 overs (P. Ramprasad 58) drew with Indian Bank 203 and 140 for four in 45 overs (S. Karthik 54 n.o.).

Points: Aruna 5, Bank 2.
