Vedike wants jobs for Kannadigas

Staff Correspondent

KOLAR GOLD FIELDS: Scores of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists staged a protest here on Tuesday urging jobs for Kannadigas in BEML, a public sector undertaking.

The protesters, led by Vedike’s Kolar district president K.N. Prabhakar, held a dharna on KGF-Bangarpet main road in front of the gate of BEML here.

Injustice has been done to Kannadigas in employment opportunities in BEML, the only major government factory in the district, the Vedike alleged.

Kannadigas were not given proper representation in jobs ranging from ‘A’ grade to ‘D’ grade, the outfit said. The protesters also raised slogans demanding regularisation of workers at the factory, who have been serving since more than a decade.

“While the Sarojini Mahishi Report advocates jobs for people of Karnataka, BEML is conducting direct interviews in other States for recruitment of engineers,” Mr. Prabhakar said.
