Jayaraj was shooting for his latest film ‘Gulmohar’ in Kozhikode when he came to know of the death of actor Raghuvaran in Chennai on Wednesday morning. “The last time I had spoken to him, he had said that he wanted to do a serious film with me,” said Jayaraj who directed Raghuvaran in the Tamil film ‘Sila Nerangalil,’ the Palakkad-born actor’s last release. “And I too wanted to work with him again; he was undoubtedly one of the finest artistes in Tamil cinema. Unlike many Tamil actors, he never went overboard and knew the subtleties of acting very well.” Jayaraj believes Raghuvaran never got his due in Malayalam cinema. “The only film in which he got an opportunity to showcase his skills as an actor was ‘Daivathinte Vikruthikal.’ And he was brilliant in it, wasn’t he?” He certainly was. He excelled in all his roles in Tamil cinema too. Though he could not make it big as a hero, he made his mark as a suave villain and in character roles. “Raghuvaran was frustrated that he couldn’t do enough good characters and he took that frustration on himself,” says Jayaraj.
