It is part of the ‘French-speaking world day’ celebrations Funds received from courses and for cultural events PUDUCHERRY: Get all information you want on courses and higher studies in France at the Information Day at Alliance Francaise, Pondicherry, on Saturday. The day-long programme will provide an opportunity to meet the students and teachers for spreading information about the activities of Alliance Francaise, courses offered, cultural events, library and higher studies in France. “The Information Day is an annual event and last year we received around 200 to 300 people,” director of Alliance Francaise Michel Houdayer said. The event is part of the ‘French-speaking world day’ celebrations. For this, the Alliance Francaise has organised a number of events throughout March starting with a photography exhibition, theatre play, concert and glass painting exhibition. “At Alliance Francaise, we aim to establish a cultural dialogue between India and France. We invite personalities, writers, musicians and photographers from both the countries,” he said. Specific information on courses, opportunities for higher studies and scholarships available in France would be available on the day. At present, bilingual programmes had also been introduced in France. Mr. Houdayer said that they wanted to start an exchange programme of students in France and India. Similarly, he said they aimed at establishing cooperation with all institutions here. The library at the Alliance Francaise had been modernised with 1,000 new books on French and Indian literature, he added. He said that they mobilised funds from the fees collected for courses being conducted and also received funds from France for conducting cultural events and developmental projects. The Information Day would be inaugurated by Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan. It would start at 10 a.m. and go on till 6.30 p.m. A film by Christophe Ruggia would be screened later during the day and this would be followed by a meeting with French writer Azouz Begag.
