Governor undergoes bypass surgery

CHENNAI: Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, who was admitted to Apollo Hospitals after he complained of chest discomfort two days ago, underwent a coronary bypass surgery on Thursday. Mr. Barnala underwent an angiogram performed by consultant cardiologist K. Subramaniam, which showed two critical blocks in the left system of the coronary arteries, according to a hospital bulletin. A team of doctors, headed by senior consultant cardiac surgeon M.R. Girinath, recommended and carried out a bypass surgery in the afternoon. The Governor is said to be recovering well. — Special Correspondent
