THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said here on Thursday that the government had issued orders approving the rehabilitation package for those being evicted from Moolamppilly for the Vallarpadam International Tranship Container Terminal. Besides the monetary compensation, each evicted family would get five or six cents of land. Families losing more than five cents would get six cents each while others would get five cents each. The Minister said the Cochin Port Trust would bear the cost of development of the land being allocated to the evictees. Power and water connections to the land would be given on a priority basis when houses for them are ready. Besides, each family would be given Rs.50,000 in advance as rent for the next ten months in addition to Rs.10,000 for meeting expenses related to shifting of their homes. Mr. Rajendran said those evicted for the projects from other places would be given only four centres of land. The Port Trust had been asked to request the Centre to exempt the compensation amount from income tax. Besides, a member from each evicted family would be given jobs at the project depending on their qualifications. Action to carry out the orders would be taken by the Ernakulam District Collector.
