53.5 grams of gold acquired by melting about 150 small gold coins recovered ANANTAPUR: Six persons were taken into custody by the police at Rangapuram village in Madakasira mandal in the district on Thursday in an incident related to unearthing hidden treasure. About 53.5 grams of gold was acquired by melting about 150 small gold coins, six small gold coins were also recovered from their possession. According to the police, one Vadde Ramanji was quarrying in a hillock for the purpose of road metal and low-grade granite for other needs of construction with machinery when the workers found a small box type material after a hillock was blasted using explosives. Knowing about the treasure found Ramanji and workers Ramakrishna and Naveen taken them to a goldsmith, Krishna, in Madakasira. After confirming that it was genuine gold they asked the goldsmith to weigh the coins and it was found that each coin weighed about 360 mg. Later, they melted it to make a gold bar weighing 53.5 grams. The worth of the treasure found in the form of ancient gold coins was stated to be Rs. 70,000. The police stated that they had taken the six persons into custody on the charges of suppressing information about finding the hidden treasure.
