KSTRC e-ticketing hits roadblock

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A large number of people had a harrowing time in purchasing advance reservation tickets for their journey by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses across the State following technical snags on KSRTC’s web server since Tuesday.

Passengers could purchase neither e-tickets by logging on to www.ksrtc.in nor regular tickets at KSRTC franchisee outlets. The problem started at around 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday and continued till late Wednesday, forcing the public to do business the old-fashioned way: buying tickets at the counters.

Though KSRTC officials claimed that the problem has been rectified, the website had a message — “server is busy, please try after some time,” when The Hindu did a reality check to book e-tickets on Thursday. However, tickets were available at KSRTC franchisees’ outlets.

Admitting that there was a technical hiccup, KSRTC Chief Manager (Management Information System) C.S. Sheshadri told The Hindu that the problem was owing to maintenance work.

Server

KSRTC Director (Security and Vigilance) M.A. Saleem said that the corporation was in the process of setting up a Disaster Recovery server at Hyderabad. The hiccup occurred during the integration of the main server located at KSRTC Central Office and the Hyderabad server. Meanwhile, the server is being upgraded to receive at least 1,500 simultaneous hits instead of the present 500 simultaneous hits.

Owing to the chaos since Tuesday evening, the corporation has asked the personnel integrating the two servers to go slow so as not to affect regular bookings.

Director (Operations) K.A. Rajkumar said the number of hits and bookings by individual passengers (e-ticket) have been restricted so as to reduce the load on the server.
