BANGALORE: The State Public Prosecutor (SPP) on Wednesday assured the Karnataka High Court that the Home Secretary would file an affidavit relating to the forcible occupation of a house in Cottonpet in Bangalore by the city police. The court, on November 30, 2007, ordered issue of show-cause notice asking the Home Secretary, Vatsala Watsa, on why action should not be initiated against her for disobeying court orders and for failing to file an affidavit. The court was dealing with a petition by Dhanalakshmi Ammal challenging the “forced takeover” of her residence by the City Crime Branch (CCB), Bangalore. The court during earlier hearings had taken to task the police for their action and directed the Home Secretary to file a report. When the matter came up on Wednesday, Justice Jawed Rahim said he had given sufficient time to the Home Secretary but she had so far failed to file any report. The SPP assured the court that he would ensure that an affidavit was filed by the next date of hearing.
