Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s gesture of staying the execution of Sarabjit Singh, sentenced for his alleged role in bomb blasts in Lahore, till April 30 is positive. It will boost his image and give a fillip to India’s efforts to save Sarabjit’s life. India-Pakistan ties need to be nurtured and the accommodation of mutual interests and concerns is a precondition for that. One hopes the President will grant clemency to the Indian languishing in a Pakistani jail for 18 years. N.K. Vijayan, Kizhakkambalam The news that President Musharraf has deferred Sarabjit’s hanging has come as a relief to us. The new government should prevail upon him to pardon the unfortunate Indian.
