More SEZs cleared

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Thursday cleared five new special economic zones (SEZs) and gave in-principle approval to one SEZ, taking the total number of such zones approved so far to 449, of which 206 have already been notified. In its meeting, the Board of Approval (BoA) for SEZs discussed nine proposals, including one proposal for conversion of in-principal approval to formal approval. It finally cleared five SEZs, including four information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services (ITeS) SEZs.

The four IT/ITeS zones cleared are that of Brigade Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. in Karnataka; Wellgrow Buildcon Pvt. Ltd. in Haryana; Sunwise Properties Pvt. Ltd. in Haryana and Smart City (Kochi) Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. in Kerala. A biotech project of Vivo Bio in A.P. was also given formal approval. An engineering SEZ in Maharashtra by MIDC Corporation was granted in-principle approval by the BoA for SEZ.
