Tirupur to be a district
CHENNAI: A new district with Tirupur as headquarters will be carved out of Coimbatore and Erode districts, Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan announced in the Assembly on Thursday.
Presenting the budget proposals for 2008-09, Mr. Anbazhagan said that the new district was being carved out following a promise made by the Chief Minister in December 2007.
He said that in the next three years, Rs. 20 crore will be provided every year for constructing offices and quarters for District Collectors, District Revenue Officers, Revenue Divisional Officers, Tahsildars, Revenue Inspectors and Village Administrative Officers. Tirupur will also be one of the cities selected to upgrade roads to international standards. The scheme, the Tamil Nadu Urban Roads Development Project, will be implemented in the coming financial year.
