Kullu-Manali airstrip will be extended Facilities will boost tourism in State Kullu: To accommodate the landing of big planes in Himachal Pradesh, airports in the State, including that of Shimla would be expanded and runways increased, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel said on Thursday. The airstrip of Kullu-Manali airport would also be extended and runway length would be increased to accommodate the landing of jet planes. All such activities would be completed during the next financial year, he said after dedicating the new terminal building of Kullu-Manali airport to the people. Mr. Patel said all airports in Himachal Pradesh would be provided with increased frequency of air flights. He said competitive facilities would lower the air fare and added regional air travelling that is being promoted will facilitate in the expansion of the air travelling network. He said the modern air services would boost the economy of the State and also generate employment and self-employment avenues to the people. Mr. Patel also suggested the introduction of heli-tourism which could cater to the high paying tourist. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal urged Mr. Patel to include night landing facility at Kullu-Manali airport and to increase frequency of Air India flights to the valley. Mr. Dhumal also demanded expansion of Shimla airport and quality improvement of airports in the State. Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma, also stressed on providing better air facilities to the State to boost tourism. — PTI
