280 held for anti-social activities in Pudukottai

PUDUKOTTAI: In an intensive raid on anti-social elements, bootleggers and former convicts in various parts of the district conducted by the police personnel in the four days ended on Monday, as many as 280 persons were arrested and remanded to custody.
In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police P. Moorthi said that teams led by Additional Superintendent of Police N. Krishnavelu and Deputy Superintendents of Police K. Adhiveerapandian, P. Soundararajan, R. Mahendran, D. Azhagesan and S. Maheswaran, were constituted to check the vehicles and lodges. The teams comprised 15 Inspectors of Police, 30 Sub-Inspectors of Police and 130 constables.
In all, 191 anti-social persons, six rowdy elements, 183 ex-convicts were interrogated. The release said that a salient feature of the raid was that 100 persons, against whom non-bailable warrants were pending for quite some, had been arrested. This apart, a total of 73 prohibition offenders were also taken into custody. As many as 107 persons have been taken into preventive custody.
The release said that the raids would continue and stern action be taken against those indulging in anti-social activities.
