NEW DELHI: A 42-year-old former Army personnel has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police on charges of supplying defence-related confidential documents to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) against monetary considerations. The police claim to have seized some secret papers from his possession. The Special Cell was recently tipped off about a man who had been passing on security-sensitive information to the ISI. The suspect was kept under surveillance and it was found that he would come to the Walled City to hand over some Army-related documents to his handler, an ISI agent, on Tuesday. A team led by Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma laid a trap and arrested the culprit who was carrying a suitcase. He identified himself as Javed Ahmed, a resident of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh. From the suitcase, the police found two books containing details about the Indian Army’s warfare engineering tactics. During interrogation, Javed purportedly disclosed that he joined the Army as a sepoy in 1984 and retired in 2001. Javed did not get any satisfactory job after that. When he was desperate for monetary support, he came in contact with Salaudin who introduced him to an ISI agent in 2006. During the meeting, the agent motivated Javed to work for the ISI as a spy in lieu of regular payment of money.
