New Delhi
They arrive through local trains from adjacent stations NEW DELHI: Northern Railway’s decision to temporarily stop sale of platform tickets from March 15 to 21 to manage passenger rush at stations here because of the Holi festival has fetched it mixed results. According to a Northern Railway official, several people have found a clever way of hoodwinking the Railways and bypassing the temporary rule by arriving at the stations in Delhi through local trains taken from adjacent stations to see off their relatives. “It has been noticed that several people travel in local trains from stations like Tilak Bridge and get off at, say, New Delhi railway station to see off their relatives. We are planning to undertake a drive to curb this practice,” said the official. As per the temporary rule, people accompanying passengers are required to stay away from the platforms and are allowed only up to the entrance of the stations. This is applicable at New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Sarai Rohilla stations. ExceptionsThe only exceptions to the rule are senior citizens, physically challenged, medically sick and women travelling alone or with children who would be provided platform ticket on demand at the “May I Help Counter” at the station entrance.
