Tributes pour in for Sobhan Babu

Telugu film industry expresses shock

HYDERABAD: The passing away of actor Sobhan Babu shocked the Telugu film industry here. By Thursday evening, over a dozen prominent personalities left for Chennai to pay their last tributes.

Daggubati Suresh Babu and his father, producer Rama Naidu fondly recalled their work with Sobhan Babu on 11 films and how they made good business, going on to become hit films. “We were among the very few he would invite for dinner. A disciplinarian, he would always report for shooting at the appointed hour and actually close work at 6 p.m.,” they said.

‘Lost a brother’

Superstar Krishna said it was as if he had lost a brother and went on to narrate how they acted together on stage before facing the camera. Union Minister and filmmaker Dasari Narayana Rao said Sobhan Babu had made a name for himself as a ‘novel’ hero and that after Akkineni Nageswara Rao; it was Sobhan Babu who had a fan following among women.

Actress Sarada said Sobhan Babu’s death had come as a shock while Jayaprada said she owed it to him for being where she was, in life. Jayasudha said that it was only on Wednesday that she had spoken to character hero Chandramohan and how they had decided to call Sobhan Babu on Thursday. “I blame myself for not telephoning him yesterday itself,” she said, her voice choking with emotion.

YSR condoles death

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Redy and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed regrets and conveyed their condolences to the family members, while Information Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy the actor had left behind a void that would be difficult to fill up.
