HYDERABAD: Fed up with too many features embedded in your mobile phone, yet wanna be on line on the move?

All of 174 grams, ‘PocketSurfer2’, which delivers a web experience just like your desktop, addresses your needs. It simply fits into your palm.

What’s more, Internet is offered absolutely free for 2,100 minutes a month and 25,000 minutes a year. For unlimited access, you just have to shell out Rs. 99 a month. The built-in GPRS antenna and SIM card get you connected to the net instantly. No need of any attachments.

Packed with Linux at the backend, PocktSurfer2, proposed to be launched in Indian market sometime in May-June with a price tag of Rs. 10,990, can load a web page in less than seven seconds.

Manufactured by Montreal-based (Canada) Datawind, the product evoked a “tremendous response” since its launch in October 2007 in UK, said Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of the company.

USP

PocketSurfer2 was showcased at Hyderabad IT summit – 2008 exhibition here. Harjinder Singh, CEO of Indian operations said the product’s USP was ‘speed challenge’. “Bring any PDA that loads a web page in less than 7 to 10 seconds and take away the PocketSurfer2 free of cost.

The mouse cursor, backlit QUERTY keyboard, mini-USB charging port and many such features, it is a gizmo geek’s delight.

Negotiations

Mr. Singh said that the company was negotiating with BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance for providing the service. The user need not pay anything to the internet service providers, as the company would take care of it.

He didn’t want to disclose the details of the processor that powers the PocketSurfer2, as all details would be provided when the company would go public in UK next year.
