Flights diverted

A Correspondent

Nedumbassery: Flight services in the early hours from the Cochin international airport were affected by fog and poor visibility for the second consecutive day on Thursday.

Two flights, one international and one domestic, were diverted to Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday morning.

Qatar Airways flight from Doha, QR 264, which was scheduled to land at 6.15 a.m., was diverted to the State capital and returned at 10 a.m.

Kingfisher flight from Bangalore, IT 2451, was also diverted to Thiruvananthapuram and returned at 10.30 am.

These two carriers were affected by the fog on Wednesday morning also.

Airport officials, however, said it was the aircraft’s crew who decided to divert the flight in spite of the fact that there was required visibility for the aircraft.

They added that though there was fog on the runway, the visibility level was well above 1500 mt, the standard visibility requirement.
