Rajasthan Day celebrations from March 24

JAIPUR: The weeklong Rajasthan Day celebrations starting here from March 24 would have a variety of cultural activities involving international, national and local groups making it a major tourist attraction in the Pink City towards the fag end of the tourism season. The activities would be spread over a dozen venues all over Jaipur and Amber, the erstwhile capital of the former Jaipur State. Jointly organised by the Rajasthan Department of Tourism and Virasat Foundation, this year’s extravaganza will start with an audio visual show titled “Spectacular images of Rajasthan” which will be opened by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. The show will go on till March 30, Rajasthan Diwas, and end with fireworks on Janpath in front of the Rajasthan Assembly.

The current fare will bring to the city danseuses Hema Malini and Mallika Sarabhai, music director and singer A.R. Rahman, playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan, Odissi exponent Madhavi Mudgal, ghazal singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, playback singers Shreya Ghoshal and Kunal Ganjawala, and Kathakali expert Raman Kutty Nair.

Perhaps for the first time in the city the week will find members of the Chinese Photographers’ Association exhibiting their works. The events with international flavour include staging of Chekov’s works, an international festival of short films and golf tournaments. The event is to showcase folk performances, rural sports, craft bazaar, night bazaar, Rajasthani food festival, police tattoo show, army band performance, national puppet festival, national folk dance festival and festival of Indian classical dances. On March 25, the IAF will showcase air display and aerobatics at the Rajasthan University grounds.
