Staff Reporter

Hyderabad: The handicrafts showcased by tribes from different hamlets in Jharkhand at an exhibition here on Thursday are leaving visitors spell bound. The fair that was opened on Thursday will be held till March 27 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Twelve stalls have been setup showcasing crafts made by tribes from various pockets of Jharkhand.

The most interesting of them is Dokra, one of the oldest forms of metal casting. “The process involves mixing of wax and resin, which is called ‘Dhuna’. Both of them are mixed with oils and the statue is made,” says Dhanraj Rana, a craftsman from Chakeria hamlet of Jharkhand.

The craftsmen also use Dokra to make ornaments and other metal statuettes.

The exhibition has a wide variety of mats, hats, paper holders, mobile phone cases, curtains and table mats, all made from Saboi grass that grows on the river banks.

The weeklong exhibition is being organised by Kalamandir, the celluloid chapter art foundation at YMCA, Narayanguda.
