NEW DELHI: Delhi University is bracing itself up for Holi celebrations on the campus this Saturday. Elaborate security arrangements have been made on the campus and in the affiliated colleges to combat any act of hooliganism, particularly directed at women students. “In coordination with the law and order authorities, voluntary organisations and the University’s proctorial staff and security personnel, we are determined to check hooliganism during Holi. Anyone who indulges in such acts of gross indiscipline and causes harassment of any kind would be subject to strict disciplinary action under the provision of Ordinances XV-B and XV-C,” warned a release from the Registrar’s office on Tuesday. Apart from banning playing of Holi during working hours in any educational institution, the University has instructed all Principals, heads of departments and provosts of halls and hostels to be available in their respective institutions on Saturday to deal with any incident by activating their respective disciplinary committees. Entry to the colleges would also be strictly through identity cards. “The Delhi police have assured the University of full cooperation in maintaining law and order. Police force is being deployed at various strategic positions around the colleges. Mobile patrol squads are also being deployed. We have requested the transport authorities to check harassment of girl students in buses during Holi,” the release added. A control room jointly manned by the Delhi police, Delhi Transport Corporation and the University authorities would function at 16 Chhatra Marg on the North Campus to deal with any untoward incident. On the South Campus, the office of the Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare will be the control room. The telephone number for the North Campus control room is 27667221, and that on the South Campus is 24119832.
