THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 45-year-old man who sustained serious burns during a temple festival at Mithirmala on the outskirts of the capital on Wednesday succumbed to the injuries on Thursday evening. Mohan hailing from Parappil, who was under treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (Surgery) (ICU) of the Medical College hospital here, passed away at 3.30 p.m., hospital sources said. According to police, the body of Mohanan will be handed over to the relatives after a post mortem on Friday. Three others — Saji, 19; Shibhu, 21; both hailing from Mithirmala, and Prasannan, 40; hailing from Eraloor — who were seriously injured in the incident are still in the Surgery ICU. All the three had sustained 30 to 70 per cent burns. As many as 14 persons were injured when they got an electric shock from an overhead high-voltage power line while hoisting a flag mast to mark the beginning of the annual festivities of temple. The injured were first rushed to the Primary Health Centre, Kallara, and later shifted to the Medical College Hospital. Case registeredThe police have registered a case of negligence under Section 136 of the Indian Penal Code against the festival organisers.
