KSEB asked to pay compensation

Staff Reporter

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has been ordered to give a compensation of Rs.two lakh to the family of a girl who was killed when an electric post fell on her. The court dismissed KSEB’s arguments that it had no liability in the case as the post had broken after a coconut tree fell on it.

Divya A.S., a Plus Two student of Pattom Government Model HSS, was killed on August 8, 2000, when the electric post broke and fell on her. She had been waiting at the Thycaud Model High School junction bus stop along with other children when the accident occurred.

The KSEB had initially agreed to pay Rs.50,000 as compensation to the family of Divya.

However, the family approached the court when later, the Board took the stance that it was not liable to pay compensation.
