Cinemas alerted after Hyderabad blasts Only multiplexes have complied with the instructions BANGALORE: The city police will issue notices to such cinemas that have not put in place a security system as suggested by the police a few months ago. Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Bipin Gopalakrishna told The Hindu on Thursday that all the Deputy Commissioners of Police had been directed to issue notices to cinemas in their jurisdiction that had not installed doorframe metal detectors and not screening people with hand-held metal detectors. After the twin explosions at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat in Hyderabad in August 2007, the Bangalore police had convened a meeting of cinema owners and instructed them to put in a place a proper security system to ensure the safety of the moviegoers. Mr. Gopalakrishna said that although it had been six months, only about 25 per cent of the cinemas, mainly multiplexes, had complied with the instructions. “If the cinema owners fail to install metal detectors even after receiving the notice, we will write to the Deputy Commissioner to cancel their licences and stop the shows,” he said. At the meeting of cinema owners, which was attended by the representatives of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, the police had suggested to cinema owners to ensure that the auditorium and toilets were checked. Following the Hyderabad blasts, the Bangalore police had directed the malls in the city to install doorframe metal detectors and frisk people using metal detectors.
