AG’s Office dethroned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Host Thiruvananthapuram dethroned AG’s Office 2-1 to win the women’s title in the senior State Carrom championships here on Friday.

Thiruvananthapuram bounced back after its top-ranked player K. Suyra lost to S. Saradmabal in the first match. However, R. Reetha and Ninu Vina ensured the title for Thiruvananthapuram by scoring straight set wins over their rivals.

In the men’s section, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram completed the semifinal line-up.

The results: women: (final): Thiruvananthapuram bt AG’s Office 2-1 (K. Surya lost to S. Saradambal 9-25, 25-16, 16-25; R. Reetha bt M. Sudha 25-0, 25-8; Ninu Vina bt K. Vijaya 25-13, 25-9).

Semifinals: Thiruvananthapuram bt SBT 3-0 (Reetha bt B. Ajitha 25-10, 25-8; Ninu bt K. Chitra 25-9, 25-7; Surya bt Vijayakumari 25-0, 25-0); AG’s Office bt Kollam 3-0 (Saradambal bt K.
