On air: Film-maker Shekhar Kapur. NEW DELHI: Internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur will share his remarkable journey from Bollywood to the dream factory of Hollywood in “Talk Asia” on CNN this Saturday and Sunday. Besides speaking candidly about his critically-acclaimed movies, inspirations and passions, Kapur will also dwell on his career from accountancy to acting and, finally, directing. What makes the interview special is that for the first time CNN’s “Talk Asia” has been filmed in front of a live studio audience in India. The interview with the gifted filmmaker will be done by Anjali Rao. Kapur will recall his directorial experiences during the filming of the Academy Award-winning period film “Elizabeth” and the reasons behind his decision to cast actor Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth. He will also take a trip down memory lane to share some of his experiences while making the much talked about “Bandit Queen”. The seasoned film director will also talk about the failure of “The Four Feathers” that starred the late Heath Ledger and his dream project “Paani” for which he has returned home to Mumbai after a decade in Hollywood. Speaking about “Paani” that is currently in the development stage, Kapur will explain the powerful social concept behind the film: a love story set in the future where a global shortage sees water become a tradable commodity. “Water is the biggest issue internationally. Most of the wars in the world are now being fought over water. They’re saying, water is gonna be the new oil.... Cities are running out of water everywhere....... And when a concentrated body of 20 million people run out of water, there’s going to be an immediate war,” says Kapur. On a personal note, Kapur shares the reasons for the failure of his two marriages and says, “I am a bad husband,” adding, “when two people love each other they have to give each other enough personal space to grow as individuals.” Besides being involved in the film industry, the talented filmmaker also shares his love for creating comic book characters, the reason he co-founded Virgin Comics and Animation with British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson of Virgin airline fame and celebrated author Deepak Chopra.
