Mouth-watering: With Easter Sunday round the corner, children take a look at chocolate eggs available in Puducherry.

PUDUCHERRY: Get ready for a scrumptious treat this weekend, with an assortment of ‘Easter eggs’ on offer for food-lovers. Chocolate, almonds or marzipan, the eggs are already selling like hot cakes in Puducherry.

Flavours aplenty, Easter eggs come in different colours, sizes and attractive decorations. And it is not just the eggs that will do the rounds this year, as bakeries have come up with special cakes for the discerning gourmet.

“The sale of Easter eggs is good now. We expect more sales during the weekend,” manager of Hot Breads, D.R. Balu, said. The outlet sold 50 eggs on Thursday alone.

Apart from chocolate, Hot Breads plans to prepare almond and marzipan Easter eggs. A medium-sized chocolate Easter egg is priced at Rs.150, while an almond egg will cost Rs.100 and a marzipan Rs.125. And it’s the inside that holds the most goodies. Bakeries have come up with an array of fillings ranging from sweets to balloons to stickers.

“We have filled the eggs with nine varieties of chocolates, including almond sweets and jujubes,” Mr. Balu said.

At Grand Bakery, the eggs have been filled with balloons and stickers. “We have chocolate eggs in two sizes at Rs.9 and Rs.14,” proprietor of the bakery P.P. Balan said.

Adding to the festive spirit, Hot Breads has come up with a nest cake for Sunday. Available in a variety of flavours, a kilo will cost Rs.350 to Rs.450.

Cake festival

It will be a cake festival at Hotel Mass as it celebrates the ‘Easter Feast’ from March 16 to 31. It has vanilla Easter eggs priced at Rs.20 with chocolate goodies inside.

“We have special cakes for Easter with different fruit flavours blended with fresh cream. The flavours include apples, pears, peaches and tender coconut. A kilo is priced at Rs.299,” executive chef of Hotel Mass J.C. Selvaraj said.

So get ready for a taste of the most mouth-watering delicacies this Easter Sunday!
