Farmers to get cash prizes

Shimla: In a bid to boost the agriculture sector in the State, the Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to introduce cash prizes for progressive farmers.

Cash prizes of Rs. 50,000 to six progressive farmers at the State level, Rs 25,000 to 28 farmers at district level and Rs. 10,000 to 195 farmers at block level would be provided by the State Government, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said at a Kisan Mela at Hamirpur on Friday.

Promising to accord top priority to strengthening agro-economy, Mr. Dhumal said the sprinkler and drip irrigation systems would be boosted in the State.

Soil health cards

Every farmer would be issued soil health cards detailing the appropriate crops they should grow on their land for better productivity and the state would share 50 per cent of the premium amount of Kisan Bima Yojana, he announced. -- PTI
