‘Defeat Congress and bring back Ramanna rajyam’

G. Ravikiran

Harikrishna makes whirlwind tour of Tiruvuru and Vissannapet areas in Krishna district

VISSANNAPET (Krishna district): Rajya Sabha member-elect and TDP leader Nandamuri Harikrishna on Friday made a fervent plea to people to bring back ‘Ramanna rajyam’ under the leadership of N. Chandrababu Naidu and defeat the Congress in the next elections “for all its misdeeds and misdemeanours.”

The occasion was his maiden whirlwind tour of Tiruvuru and Vissannapet areas in Krishna district immediately after his election to the Upper House. Upbeat over the arrival of NTR’s son, local TDP cadres and leaders held out thunderous receptions throughout and stayed on to listen to their favourite leader despite getting drenched in downpour all along.

Mr. Harikrishna’s visit was fully made use of by the TDP leaders, who ensured that he unveiled an impressive and elegant statue of NTR at Tataguntla near Vissannapet. He also addressed a well-attended public meeting and the party leaders in the region were euphoric over NTR’s son taking upon himself the task of inspiring the party cadre and unveiling NTR’s statues at various places.

Uproarious applause

The public meeting witnessed uproarious applause, as Mr. Harikrishna launched a scathing attack on the Rajasekhara Reddy government. He singled out the Chief Minister for a non-stop attack, saying Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy had done nothing to meet his election promises and also let down women, youth, farmers, artisans and every other section of the society.

Mr. Harikrishna, much like his father, made a habitual beginning of his speeches with the phrase “Naa Teluginti aada paduchulu…” and “Naa Teluginti tammullu, annalu…”, which nearly cast a spell on the listeners.

The leitmotif of Mr. Harikrishna’s speeches at various places, including Tiruvuru, was his appeal to the electorate to show the same kind of enthusiasm that they displayed in 1983, when NTR vanquished the then Congress government “just because it was tarnished and mired in corruption.”

“This Government of Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy is no better. In fact, it is much worse. Not just corruption, there are rowdies ruling everywhere. See how Paritala Ravi was murdered inhumanly. We should together uproot this corrupt Congress government,” Mr. Harikrishna said, as listeners heard him in rapt attention.

TDP senior leader Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, former MP Gadde Rammohan, party general secretary Bhuma Shobha Nagi Reddy, former Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, former MLA N. Swami Das and others were present.
