25 works of children’s writer G.P. Rajarathnam released

Bangalore: Noted poet K.S. Nisar Ahmad said that the style and syntax of some of the works of the pioneer of children’s literature in Kannada, the late G.P. Rajarathnam, such as “Rathnana Padagalu”, have remained a challenge for translators even today.

He was speaking at the release of the revised version of 25 works of Rajarathnam brought out by Sapna Book House here on Friday.

Works remembered

Prof. Ahmad said Mr. Rajarathnam had successfully ventured into children’s literature as he was fully conversant with the mind of a child and the demands of their age. Many of his nursery rhymes such as Naayi mari naayi mari tindi beke and the poem Bannada Tagadina Tutturi ruled the hearts of generations of Kannadiga children, he added.

Recalling Mr. Rajarathnam’s teaching methods at the graduation and postgraduation levels, Prof. Ahmad said that his teacher was not keen on exhibiting his erudition and always used simple and lucid language.

Managing Director of Sapna Book House Nitin Shah welcomed the gathering.

Noted humourist and writer Aa. Ra. Mitra delivered a lecture on the life and achievements of the Mr. Rajarathnam.

The late poet’s daughter-in-law, Shaila Sridhar Rajarathnam, was present.

The chief of the Kannada wing of the book house, R. Dodde Gowda, proposed a vote of thanks.
