Police duty bound to enforce the High Court directive Defaulters to be enforced a fine of Rs. 100 each KOLLAM: The Kollam Police have informed that the drive to enforce wearing of helmets will be intensified. In a statement Kollam Deputy Superintendent of Police C.G. Suresh Kumar said that the drive is being intensified in the larger interests of bringing down fatalities in road accidents. There will be no compromise on the rule that two wheeler drivers will have to wear helmets. He said that two wheelers are seen to be involved in the bulk of the accidents and the victims of fatalities are those who were not wearing helmets. Those in the medical field also confirm this, Mr. Suresh Kumar pointed out. It was on the basis of this that the High Court gave the directive making helmets mandatory for two wheeler drivers. The police are duty bound to enforce the directive. Those not found wearing helmets will be imposed with a fine of Rs.100 each. Repetition of the offence for the second time can result in the license getting suspended for six months and a third repetition can result in even cancellation of the licence, he said. At the same time, strict action will be taken against those police personnel found harassing two wheeler owners. in the name of the helmet drive.
