Failure to issue admit card to an examinee Separate exam ordered for the student NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has imposed a fine of Rs.25,000 jointly on the Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Research and its Principal here for arbitrarily not issuing to an examinee her admit card to appear in the Masters in Pharmacy (Quality Assurance) examinations last year. Though Delhi University had sent her admit card to the Institute along with the admit cards of the other examinees, the Principal had refused to hand it over to her saying that her attendance was short. The examinee, Seema Sharma, had been absent from classes for 42 days as she was on maternity leave. According to the Delhi University ordinance, a female student is entitled to three months’ maternity leave. She had surrendered the remaining leave period and joined the classes, yet the Institute denied permission to her to sit in the examinations in violations of the ordinance. Before approaching the High Court for a direction to the Principal to issue the admit card to her, Ms. Sharma had knocked at the doors of the Chief Minister, the Delhi University Vice-Chancellor, the Delhi Commission for Women and the Grievances Cell of the Delhi Government but she got no relief. Upholding her contention, Justice Gita Mittal directed the Institute to make arrangements for holding a separate examination for her so that she could continue her academic pursuits further.
