BHUBANESWAR: Friday was a unique coincidence that gave religious pleasure to all communities in the State. Colourful processions and prayers by Hindus, Muslims and Christians overshadowed all other engagements. Dola Purnima, a day before Holi of Hindus was celebrated with religious gaiety and fervour . Fakirpada of Khurda district was a major attraction for devotees. Deities from 10 nearby villagers were taken in decorated palanquins. At many places, cows were bathed, anointed with vermilion, garlanded and fed sumptuously to mark the Dola Purnima. Another major gathering of decorated ‘vimans’ (palanquins) were reported from Olakana near Cuttack. A special ritual of Lord Jagannath, who is considered as incarnation of Lord Krishna, was performed at Jagannath Temple, Puri. Similarly, Eid-e-Milad, the birth as well as the death anniversary of the Prophet Mohammed was celebrated with festivity at various places. Processions were taken out by Muslim community at different places including Bhubaneswar, Kendrapara and Bolangir. At Kendrapara, religious discourses were held.
