Damaged statue buried

RAJAPALAYAM: The damaged Muthuramalinga Thevar statue at Sankaralingapuram near here was buried with rituals performed by villagers on Friday. Holy water from Rameswaram, Courtallam and Kanyakumari were poured on the stone statue before it was buried.

Over 50 villagers tonsured their head on the occasion.

The statue was damaged on February 4, sparking tension in the region. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
