Annual Credit Plan for Theni launched

THENI: Annual Credit Plan of the district for 2008-09 that envisaged an outlay of Rs.810.51 crore, 15 per cent more than the previous year, was launched at a district-level consultative meeting for bank development here on Thursday.

Launching the plan, Collector S.J. Chiru said the increase worked out to Rs.105.73 crore. Top priority was given for agriculture and its allied sectors. Projection for agriculture sector was Rs.587.62 crore, Rs.90 crore higher than the outlay for 2007-08.

The outlay for direct agriculture was Rs.547.09 crore, 20.4 per cent more than the previous plan, and the projection for allied activities Rs.40.53 crore. A major amount was allocated for crop loan. Equal importance was given for minor irrigation, land development and farm mechanisation.

The bankers also plan to disburse sizable amount for development of plantation and horticulture. Crop loan disbursement projection was Rs.450.74 crore followed by plantation and horticulture at Rs.44.10 crore. Projection for farm mechanisation was Rs.24.77 crore, minor irrigation Rs.13.12 crore, land development Rs.10.22 crore and others Rs.4.14 crore.

The banks will also disburse funds for farm-related activities to boost farmers’ income.

Total projection for development of dairy, poultry, sheep, fishery and forestry and creation of storage facilities was Rs.40.53 crore, Mr. Chiru said.

Non-farm sector has been allocated an outlay of Rs.60.78 crore, 33.8 per cent higher than the previous outlay and in term so quantum, Rs.15.36 crore. All banks achieved more than hundred per cent of their disbursement target in the past three years under the plan.
