Former naxalites held

HYDERABAD: City Police on Friday arrested two former naxalites of People’s War, along with their sympathiser, on charge of attempting to extort money from city businessmen.

A country-made revolver and two mobile phones were seized from the arrested persons, B. Sammaiah, G. Bhikshapathi and A. Mallikarjuna Shastry, the Commissioner’s Task Force (Central) Inspector Maddipati Srinivas said. All the three hailed from Warangal district. Shastry had a friend Ch. Sambaiah of the same district, also a PWG naxalite. H handed over a country-made revolver to Shastry for safe custody in 1997 and was subsequently killed in an exchange of fire with police.

Shastry later joined hands with the two former naxalites and hatched a plot. They were caught at Padmaja lodge in Secunderabad.
