Victim identified as Ranjan Rai from Orissa, engaged by a construction company to work at the airport HYDERABAD: A labourer was found dead with his body hanging to a tree on the premises of the newly inaugurated Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, the police said on Friday. The victim was identified as Ranjan Rai (22), from Haripur village of Orissa, who was engaged by a construction company to work at the airport. Shamshabad police station Inspector Ramachandrudu said that forensic doctors opined the labourer committed suicide by hanging himself to the tree with a rope. However, motive behind his death is yet to be ascertained. As per the rules, a case of suspicious death under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code was registered. “We’re yet to receive the detailed post-mortem report. If there is any new finding by the forensic doctors, we’ll change the section of law accordingly later,” he explained. Hailing from Haripur village of Orissa State, Rai was living in the huts of labourers on the airport premises, some three kilometres away from the airport building. He left the hut on Wednesday and did not return. His younger brother Manoranjan Rai, also a labourer working at the airport and living in the same hut, approached the police the next day. “Even as searches were on for the labourer, his body was found hanging to a tree on Thursday evening and shifted to the mortuary for autopsy,” the Inspector said. The airport was inaugurated five days ago and commercial operations would begin at Saturday midnight.
