Elephant dies

KANCHEEPURAM: A 45-year-old elephant, Eeshwari, died at Sri Kamakshi Amman Temple here on Friday.

According to the Forest Ranger, Kancheepuram, S.Davidraj, the pachyderm, owned by S.Gunaseelan of Srirangam in Tiruchi district, was allowed to stay in the temple along with three other elephants, before commencing its journey to Bangalore to take part in a festival there next week. The animal developed health problem on Friday and collapsed at around 8-45 a.m. and died.

The mahouts informed the temple authorities and the Wildlife Warden office about the death . The corpse was sent to Enathur for burial.
