Staff Reporter
It was held to acknowledge contributions of three global social workers
KANCHEEPURAM: A total of 1500 children living in and around Kancheepuram took part in ‘Global Vote 2008’ to acknowledge the contributions of three social workers across the world to protection of child rights, organised by Children’s World, a Sweden-based organisation, in association with Hand-in-Hand, Tamil Nadu.
The child electorate comprised 45 transit schools and two residential schools, run by the HiH in and around Kancheepuram and pupils of Thyagi Narayanasamy School and Dhandapani Oriential School.
The children were briefed on the services rendered by the nominees for 2008 — Joseifna Condori of Peru, Agnes Stevens of the U.S. and Somaly Mam of Cambodia — to protect child rights, said Kalpana Shankar, chief executive officer, HiH, Tamil Nadu.
Students exercised their franchise in the elections held at their respective schools in the presence of Johanna Hallin and Ragna Jorming from Sweden and Kalyani Rajaraman, project director, HiH, on March19.
