District Bar Federation president arrested

Nagercoil: The police have arrested Kanyakumari District Bar Federation president Chidambarathanu and three other lawyers for leading a demonstration of lawyers during which the main entrance of the district court complex was locked up for more than two hours recently.

The detained employees, along with the judges, were released after the police broke open the lock and escorted them to their homes. The police have also registered cases against 70 lawyers who took part in the agitation.

The lawyers have been up in arms against the police for allegedly implicating one of their colleagues, Russel Raj, a member of the federation, in a police case.
