NEW DELHI: Anup Sridhar has reached a career-high ranking of 24 in the men’s singles rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Thursday. He shot up five places from the previous week’s rankings thanks to his performance in the Swiss Open. His previous high was 25 in November last year. Sridhar should be a certainty for Olympic qualification, but the rest of the Indians are hopelessly placed. Arvind Bhat (43), Chetan Anand (69), Anand Pawar (84) and P. Kashyap (99) have no realistic chance of jumping into the qualification bracket since a country can hope to get two entries only if both players are in the top 16 rankings. In the women’s section, Saina Nehwal is ranked 27, followed by Trupti Murgunde at 57.
