KOCHI: Tarring of the rail overbridge near the Thripunithura railway station is causing difficulties to the public as the problems caused by slow execution are aggravated by the incessant rain. Municipal chairperson Renjini Suresh said that the railways did not inform the municipality about the work. With rain stopping the work, the railways opened traffic one-way from Thripunithura to the bridge. However, this did not lessen the congestion on the roads in the town. The vehicles diverted from the main road to Thripunithura from Karingachira had to take a toll to cross the rail overbridge at S.N. Junction, adding to the congestion. The police had also been stressed to control the traffic from Peta Junction on way to Thripunithura. On the other side, long lines of buses, trucks and small vehicles are seen at Irimpanam on the road to S.N. Junction. Tarring work would be taken up only after the receding of the rain. People say that the work should not have taken so long, given the equipment available today. Besides, such work on busy roads should always be taken up during night leaving open at least one way during the day, said a senior citizen.
