Adding another feather in the IT cap

The opening of Tejomaya, the first phase of L&T Tech Park, at the Infopark, Kochi, has provided a new vista for the IT and IT-enabled services there.

Consisting of ground plus nine floors, it offers column-free space with modern security network and infrastructure facilities for IT companies. It has a working space for over 3,500 employees.

It is part of the project coming up in two phases with a total built up area of 1.1 million square feet, situated in 7.5 acres.

The phase II project envisages the development of 21-storeyed twin towers of 7.5 lakh square feet, to be ready in 2009. The second phase is expected to provide employment for about 7,000 IT professionals.

Green concepts

Green building concepts will be employed for the construction of the towers. A helipad is also planned on the terrace for emergency evacuation, according to officials of Larsen & Toubro Limited.

Infopark, started in 2004, has shown the way to the development of IT and IT-enabled services in Kochi.

Set up in a 100-acre compound, it has emerged as one of the leading IT destinations in India. Over the years, it has grown significantly and is poised to gain further prominence in the days ahead.

Benefits

As an IT hub, it derives several advantages that the city offers. Kochi is the landing point for the SEA-ME-WE-3 and SAFE submarine telecommunication cables. It is also the VSNL’s International Communication Gateway. Infopark is situated between the international airport and the city.

The status of Special Economic Zone accorded to 80 acres of Infopark gives additional benefits to the companies that set up units there.

More than 30 companies have already established centres there. These include IT majors such as Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services, IBS, Arbitron, US Technology, OPI Global, Outsource Partner International and ACS.
