Right recognition: S. Jecintha Mary, pharmacist, Government Headquaters Hospital, Pudukottai, right, being honoured during the Women’s Day celebration at H.H. The Rajah’s College. PUDUKOTTAI: The highlight of the International Women’s Day celebrations organised by the Youth Red Cross unit of the H. H. The Rajah’s College, Pudukottai, was honouring the pharmacist of the Government Headquarters Hospital here S. Jecintha Mary in recognition of her yeoman service towards the poor and the downtrodden. The Head of the Department of Physical Education of the College, J. Suganthi honoured Ms. Jecintha Mary with a shield. A citation presented to her said the service rendered by Ms. Jecinta has come in for praise from all sections of the society. Her name was recommended by the Head of the Hospital himself. Punctuality, kindness towards the sick and commitment to duty were some of the principles to which she is wedded to for a long time. Replying to the felicitations, Ms. Mary said the pharmacist job was a crucial one as even minor distraction would have a serious impact on the condition of the patients. She was happy that she could render service without giving room for any sort of mistake in the last three decades. She urged the people to shun with the habit of doing self-medication. “This is a dangerous practice”, she observed. The College Principal K. Narayanasamy presided over the function during which the convener of the Kural Neri Payilagam, Chandra Ravindran, the president of the Onangudi panchayat, Mekala and S. Saroja, who was the first woman auto-rickshaw driver in the State, spoke on the steps that need to be taken for the overall empowerment of women.
