Pharmacy council to organise registration renewal campaign

“Sanction medical stores based on availability of qualified pharmacists”

KASARAGOD: The Kerala State Pharmacy Council will strictly implement provisions of section 42 of the Pharmacy Act that all pharmacies and clinics in the State should dispense medicines through a registered pharmacist only, council president K.C. Ajit Kumar has said.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Kumar said several medical stores in the State were functioning without the services of a qualified pharmacist despite the existence of a law making it mandatory. The council was determined to stop such practices, he said.

Mr. Kumar said the State had 35,000 registered pharmacists and the council would conduct a field survey to determine the number of practising pharmacists. It would organise continuing education programmes for them.

He said new medical stores should be sanctioned subject to the availability of qualified pharmacists only.

Mr. Kumar said a registration renewal campaign would be held by the council at Kasaragod Guest House on March 24 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at Kanhangad Government Guest House from 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The campaign would continue at Odayamchal Hi-Tech Club on March 25 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and at Happy Tourist Home, Neeleswaram, from 2.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. All registered pharmacists should use the occasion to renew their registration, he said.
