TIRUPATTUR: Though a majority of the students from rural colleges excelled in studies, not all off them got good jobs, owing to the lack of good communication skills, K. Radhakrishnan, Inspector-General of Police (IG), North Zone, has said. Participating in the third Graduation Day of Sri Nandhanam College of Engineering and Technology, Tirupattur, on Thursday, he said opportunities were plenty for the graduates. Good communication skills played a vital role in ensuring a candidate good job. So, the rural students should strive to improve their communication skills. Mr. Radhakrishnan said developing the communication skills should be a continuous process. It required hard work, perseverance and determination. The students with good communication skill excelled in their career and could influence others. There was lot of development in the rural parts of Tamil Nadu. It was felt more on the education front as more colleges were being opened in the rural areas. Thirty years ago, only eight colleges offered engineering courses. At present, there were 270 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. Tirupattur was a peaceful town with a good number of colleges that offered education to the students from the rural areas. “This is the real growth of Tamil Nadu and rural India,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said. Pointing out that only some were lucky to get into the portal of higher learning, Mr. Radhakrishnan said 40 to 50 per cent of the people in the country were illiterates. This trend had to be changed for the country to develop. The graduates should not forget that they owed something to society. “We need leaders to mould society and take it on the right direction,” he said. P.M.M. Nandagopal, chairman of the college, said the teachers played a major role in moulding the students. “A student’s success depends on the role the teachers play.” S.Thiagarajan, college principal, E.Vidyasagaran, Senior Scientist, were present.
